Nach einem soliden Debüt als Supersport-WM-Pilot in Australien geht Marcel Schrötter als Dritter der Gesamtwertung in die zweite Veranstaltung der Saison auf der indonesischen Ferieninsel Lombok.

Praktisch unmittelbar nach dem Saisonauftakt auf Phillip Island reiste der WM-Tross direkt auf die nächste Insel, nämlich nach Lombok, eine Nachbarinsel von Bali in Indonesien. Der Mandalika International Street Circuit ist eine noch junge Rennstrecke und erlebte aufgrund der klimatischen Bedingungen eine schwierige Feuertaufe, vor allem im Hinblick auf die Asphaltverhältnisse bei den bisherigen Veranstaltungen. Die Superbike-Weltmeisterschaft gastiert diese Woche zum dritten Mal auf Lombok.

Marcel Schrötter kennt die überwiegend schnelle Rennstrecke auf der kleinen Insel bereits vom Moto2™-Rennen im vergangenen Frühjahr. Am vergangenen Wochenende hatte der 30-jährige Deutsche bei seinem Debüt als Fixstarter in der seriennahen Weltmeisterschaft mit den für Südaustralien typischen Wetterkapriolen zu kämpfen. Trotz wenig Erfahrung mit seinem Gesamtpaket belegte er am Samstag im Regen den siebten Platz, während er am sonnigen Sonntag als Vierter mit einer ebenso schnellen und zeitweise sogar schnelleren Pace als die Spitzengruppe sein Potenzial zeigte. Mit diesen Ergebnissen übernimmt der MV Agusta Reparto Corse-Fahrer vorerst den dritten Platz in der Weltmeisterschaftswertung.

Aufgrund der siebenstündigen Zeitverschiebung zu Indonesien werden die Supersport-Rennen auf Phillip Island sowohl am Samstag als auch am Sonntag um 05:00 Uhr MEZ gestartet. ServusTV bietet den bewährten Live-Stream der Rennen an.

"Ich freue mich auf das zweite Rennwochenende und ich freue mich auf Indonesien, wo ich mich wohlfühle. Südostasien ist generell ein Teil der Welt, in dem ich mich gerne aufhalte, auch wenn die klimatischen Bedingungen fast schon abnormal sind. Aber ich fühle mich körperlich top vorbereitet, so dass ich den kommenden Strapazen gelassen entgegensehe. Allerdings habe ich noch wenig Erfahrung mit dem Mandalika Circuit, denn im Gegensatz zu einigen meiner Konkurrenten bin ich erst einmal hier gewesen. Umso wichtiger ist das erste freie Training. Vor allem, weil die Supersport-Klasse die erste auf der Strecke sein wird. Zu Beginn wird der Grip sicher wieder sehr schlecht sein, weil der Asphalt noch schmutzig ist."

"Von da an ist es fast unmöglich, etwas darüber zu planen, wie wir mit der Abstimmungsarbeit beginnen sollten. In einem Fall wie diesem hängt viel davon ab, wie die Session verläuft. Wir werden also sehen, was kommt. Auf der anderen Seite bin ich natürlich hoch motiviert, an diesem Wochenende wieder mehr zu lernen, weitere Fortschritte zu machen und zu versuchen, konstant unter die ersten Fünf zu fahren, damit wir für die Rennen entsprechend gut gerüstet sind. Übrigens gefällt mir der Zeitplan mit zwei Rennen an einem Wochenende sehr gut. Das Ziel ist es, einen weiteren Schritt nach vorne zu machen und hoffentlich die Lücke zu den Top Drei ein wenig zu schliessen."

EN: Further steps forward in Indonesia

After a solid debut as a permanent entry in Supersport World Championship in Australia, Marcel Schrötter heads into the second event of the season at the Indonesian resort island of Lombok in third place overall.

Virtually immediately after the season’s opening round at Phillip Island, the World Championship directly moved over to the next visit at an island, namely Lombok, a neighbouring island to Bali in Indonesia. The Mandalika International Street Circuit is still a young venue, opened back in 2021, and since then experienced a difficult baptism of fire due to the climatic conditions, especially about the surface conditions at the previous events. The Superbike World Championship makes its third guest appearance on Lombok this week.

Marcel Schrötter already knows the predominantly fast layout of the circuit at the small island from the Moto2’s debut race last spring. Last weekend, however, the 30-year-old German rider had to contend with the weather caprices typical for South Australia in what was his debut ride as a permanent entry to the intermediate category of the world championship with production-based race bikes. Despite having little experience with his overall package, he finished seventh in the rain on Saturday, while on the sunny Sunday he showed his potential in fourth place with a pace that was just as fast and at times even faster than the leading group. With these results, the MV Agusta Reparto Corse rider took over third place in the World Championship standings for the time being.

"I am looking forward to the second race weekend and I am looking forward to Indonesia, where I feel comfortable. Southeast Asia is generally a part of the world where I like to be, even if the climatic conditions are almost abnormal. But I feel physically in top shape, so I am relaxed about the upcoming hardships. However, I still have little experience with the Mandalika Circuit because, unlike some of my competitors, I have only been here once. That makes the first free practice all the more important. Especially because the Supersport class will be the first on the track. At the beginning, the grip will certainly be very poor again because the asphalt is still dirty."

"Therefore, it is almost impossible to plan anything about how we should start setup work. In a case like this, a lot depends on how the session goes. So, we will see what comes. On the other hand, I am obviously highly motivated to learn more again this weekend, make further progress and try to consistently finish in the top five so that we are suitably well prepared for the races. By the way, I really like the schedule with two races at one weekend. The goal is to take another step forward and hopefully closing the gap to the top three a little bit."
