Für Marcel Schrötter begann die neue Meisterschaft am Samstag auf Phillip Island wie geplant mit seinem ersten Podiumsplatz. Es hätte aber auch mehr als der dritte Platz sein können.

Mit einem makellosen dritten Platz im ersten Saisonrennen beim Weltmeisterschaftslauf in Australien unterstrich Marcel Schrötter deutlich seine Absicht, in diesem Jahr ein Wörtchen im Kampf um den Titel mitreden zu wollen. Bei deutlich besseren Bedingungen als am Vortag startete Schrötter aus der ersten Reihe und lag über die gesamte Distanz in der Spitzengruppe. Seine Crew absolvierte den obligatorischen Boxenstopp zum Reifenwechsel ohne Fehler.

Das zweite Rennen ist für Sonntag geplant. Startzeit ist wieder 04:30 Uhr MEZ. Schrötter wird vom zweiten Startplatz aus ins Rennen gehen. Das liegt daran, dass die schnellste Rennrunde eines Fahrers am Samstag nun für die Startaufstellung des Rennens am Sonntag entscheidend ist. Dies gilt für die ersten drei Startreihen, alle anderen Fahrer nehmen ihren Startplatz in der Rangliste nach der Superpole ein. "Ich bin natürlich glücklich, das erste Rennen auf dem Podium beendet zu haben. Es war ein guter Start in die neue Meisterschaft, und es war auch das erste Mal, dass ich ein «Flag-to-Flag-Rennen erlebt habe. Um ehrlich zu sein, war ich vor dem Start etwas nervös, denn bei einem Boxenstopp kann schnell etwas Unvorhersehbares passieren. Im Grossen und Ganzen haben wir die Situation aber gut gemeistert. Allerdings müssen wir analysieren, wie Montella beim Boxenstopp so viel Boden gutmachen konnte. Ich bin ein wenig überrascht, denn wir haben die vorgeschriebene Mindestzeit für den Stopp auf die Sekunde genau eingehalten. Entweder haben wir beim Rein- und Rausfahren viel Zeit liegenlassen, aber diese Phasen werden mit jeweils vier Sekunden berechnet. In diesem Bereich müssen wir es morgen besser machen."

"Abgesehen davon hatte ich im Vergleich zu den Trainings mehr Probleme mit dem Motorrad, ich fühlte mich nicht so wohl. Ausserdem gab es einige Probleme mit der Schaltung, was zu vielen kleinen Fehlern führte, so dass ich immer wieder Boden auf Manzi verlor. Aber ich konnte den Rückstand immer wieder aufholen, was mich zuversichtlich macht. Trotzdem bin ich etwas enttäuscht, denn meine Pace war besser, als sie am Ende war. Aber am Ende wollte ich es wegen dieser Schwierigkeiten nicht übertreiben und keine Dummheiten machen, nur um Zweiter zu werden. Das Podium und die Punkte zu Beginn der Saison waren mir wichtiger, und morgen werden wir versuchen, noch ein bisschen mehr herauszuholen."

EN: Third place meets expectations at season opening race

For Marcel Schrötter, the new championship began as planned on Saturday at Phillip Island with his first podium finish. However, it could have been more than third place.

With a flawless third place in the first race of the season at the World Championship round in Australia, Marcel Schrötter clearly underlined his intention to have a say in the fight for the title this year. In much better conditions than on the previous day, Schrötter started from the front row and was in the leading group for the entire distance. His crew completed the obligatory pit stop to change tyres without making any mistakes.

The second race is scheduled for Sunday. Start time is again 04:30 CET. Schrötter will start race two from second on the grid. This is due to the fact that the fastest race lap of a rider on Saturday is now decisive for the starting grid for Sunday's race. This applies only to the first three rows of the grid, with all other riders taking their grid position in the rankings after Superpole. "I am obviously happy to have finished the first race on the podium. It was a good start to the new championship, and it was also the first time that I had experienced a flag-to-flag race. To be honest, I was a bit nervous before the start, because something unpredictable can quickly happen during a pit stop. On the whole, however, we managed the situation well. However, we have to analyze how Montella was able to make up so much ground at his pit stop. I am a bit surprised, because we kept to the prescribed minimum time for the stop down to the second. Either we lost a lot of time coming in and out, but these phases are calculated at four seconds each. We have to do better in this area tomorrow."

"Apart from that, I had more problems with the bike compared to the training sessions because I did not feel as comfortable. There were also some shifting issues, which led to a lot of small mistakes, so I kept losing ground on Manzi. But I was always able to close the gap again, which is good to know being capable of. Nevertheless, I am a bit disappointed because my pace was better than it was at the end. But in the end, I didn't want to overdo it because of these difficulties, and I did not want to do anything stupid just to finish second. The podium and the points at the start of the season were more important to me and tomorrow we will try to get a bit more out of it."
