Marcel Schrötter hatte es am Sonntag selbst in der Hand, seinen längst überfälligen ersten Triumph in der Supersport-Weltmeisterschaft zu feiern.

Ein Wetterumschwung mit leichtem Regen am Morgen sorgte am Rennsonntag in Barcelona für etwas kühlere Temperaturen. Bedingungen, die sich Marcel Schrötter erhofft hatte, nachdem er am Vortag nicht über den dritten Platz hinausgekommen war. Der MV Agusta-Pilot lieferte am Nachmittag prompt eine grandiose Leistung ab, obwohl er und seine Crew aufgrund der nassen Streckenbedingungen auf das Warm Up verzichtete.

Das Rennen musste wegen einer roten Flagge unterbrochen werden. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt lag Schrötter in aussichtsreicher Position auf dem dritten Platz. Für den Neustart wurde die Distanz auf sechs Runden verkürzt. Schrötter brauchte eine Runde, um im Getümmel des Starts seinen Rhythmus zu finden und ging ab der zweiten Runde in die Offensive, bis er sogar die Führung übernehmen konnte, was im Nachhinein betrachtet eine Runde zu früh war.

Der 31-jährige Bayer freut sich nun auf die dritte Saisonrunde auf dem TT Circuit im niederländischen Assen, sein «fast Heimrennen» vom 19. bis 21. April.

"Ich bin sehr zufrieden mit diesem zweiten Platz, auch wenn es einen bitteren Beigeschmack gibt. Aber das Wichtigste ist, dass wir wieder beide Rennen auf dem Podium beendet haben. Das ist und sollte unser Ziel sein, jedes Wochenende dort zu landen. Aber heute, mit der roten Flagge und dem Sprintrennen über sechs Runden, bei dem jeder auf den letzten Drücker fährt, war es sehr bitter, den Sieg so knapp verpasst zu haben. Umso mehr, als ich mich in diesem Chaos gut durchsetzen und an die Spitze des Feldes setzen konnte. Als ich in Führung lag, dachte ich, ich hätte alles richtig gemacht, bis ich auf die Start-Ziel-Gerade kam und sah, dass noch eine Runde zu fahren war. Bis zu diesem Moment hatte ich auch alles richtig gemacht."

"Leider hat mich Manzi aus dem Windschatten heraus überholt, weil wir im Topspeed nicht ganz so stark sind, aber aus den Kurven heraus Vorteile haben. Gleichzeitig war ich mir nicht bewusst, ob andere direkt hinter mir waren. Deshalb musste ich Kampflinie fahren, wollte aber auch angreifen. Es ist schade, dass ich eine Runde zu früh attackiert habe, denn ich denke, ich hätte es nach Hause bringen können. Deshalb ist es sehr bitter, wie das Rennen ausgegangen ist. Trotzdem bin ich glücklich. Vor allem, weil ich viele wichtige Punkte geholt habe und mich schon auf Assen freue."

EN: Victory narrowly missed in second Barcelona race

Marcel Schrötter had it in his own hands on Sunday to celebrate his long overdue first triumph in Supersport World Championship.

Changed weather with light rain in the morning made it for slightly cooler temperatures on race Sunday in Barcelona. Conditions that Marcel Schrötter had hoped for after failing to finish higher than third the previous day. The MV Agusta rider promptly delivered a magnificent performance in the afternoon, although he and his crew did not take part in the warm-up session due to the wet track conditions.

The race had to be interrupted due to a red flag. At this point, Schrötter was in a promising position in third place. The distance was shortened to six laps for the restart. Schrötter needed a lap to find his rhythm in the turmoil of the early stages and went on the offensive from the second lap until he was even able to take the lead, which in hindsight was a lap too early.

The 31-year-old Bavarian is now looking forward to the third round of the season at the TT Circuit in Assen, the Netherlands, his "almost home race" from April 19th to 21st.

"I am very happy with this second place, even if it does have a bitter aftertaste. But the most important thing is that we finished both races on the podium again. That is and should be our goal, to finish there every weekend. But today, with the red flag and the six-lap sprint race, in which everyone rides at the very last limit, it was very bitter to have missed out on victory by such a narrow margin. All the more so as I was able to assert myself well in this chaos and took the lead. When I was in the lead, I thought I had done everything right until I came onto the start-finish straight and saw that there was still one lap to go. But up until that moment, I had done everything right."

"Unfortunately, Manzi overtook me out of the slipstream, because we are not quite as strong at top speed but have advantages out of the corners. At the same time, I was not aware whether others were directly behind me or not. That is why I had to ride the racing line, but I also wanted to attack. It is a shame that I attacked one lap too early, because I think I could have brought it home. That is why it is very bitter how the race ended. Nevertheless, I am happy. Especially because I scored a lot of important points and I'm already looking forward to Assen racing in front of many German fans."
