Marcel Schrötter stand in beiden Rennen am Nürburgring auf dem Podium und konnte dabei jedes Mal den aktuellen Tabellenführer Lukas Tulovic hinter sich lassen.

Die vergangene Woche war für Marcel Schrötter in vielerlei Hinsicht ein echter Kraftakt, denn er reiste am Mittwochabend direkt von einem Test für das Finale der Langstrecken-Weltmeisterschaft auf dem Circuit Paul Ricard in Le Castellet in Südfrankreich zum Nürburgring weiter. Dort fand das vorletzte Saisonmeeting der aktuellen «EURO MOTO»-Serie statt.

In der Eifel ging es bereits am Donnerstag mit einem Testtag los. Obwohl Schrötter in der Nacht nur wenig Schlaf gefunden hatte, gehörte er zu den Ersten, die den intensiven Arbeitstag in Angriff nahmen, was sich für Schrötter und sein GERT56-Team letztendlich ausgezahlt hat.

Beginnend mit den offiziellen Trainingseinheiten des Wochenendes am Freitagvormittag wurde Schrötter von Session zu Session schneller. In der Superpole belegte der 33-Jährige den dritten Platz, wodurch er erneut aus der ersten Startreihe in die Rennen ging.

Im ersten Rennen am Sonntag, kurz vor Mittag, gelang dem BMW-Fahrer ein guter Start, reihte sich in der ersten Kurve auf den zweiten Platz ein und heftete sich sofort ans Hinterrad des späteren Siegers Twan Smits. Am Ende der ersten Runde geriet Schrötter jedoch unter starken Druck von Lukas Tulovic, der in der Anfangsphase des Rennens alles gab, um im Feld nach vorne zu kommen. Dabei entstand eine Lücke zum Führenden.

Kurz darauf wurde jedoch die Kräfteverteilung deutlich. Runde für Runde konnte Schrötter zu Smits wieder aufholen, bis er knapp am Hinterrad von Smits war. In der Schlussphase setzte er den Niederländer stark unter Druck, doch in den letzten Runden reichten die Reserven nicht mehr aus, um einen entscheidenden Angriff zu starten. Im Ziel verpasste Schrötter seinen zweiten Saisonsieg als Rookie in der «EURO MOTO»-Superbike um nur 0,8 Sekunden.

Rennen 2 am Nachmittag, das unter deutlich wärmeren Bedingungen stattfand, verlief für Schrötter noch spannender. Ein rundenlanges Duell mit Tulovic, und Markus Reiterberger, der immer wieder bedrohlich näher rückte, ermöglichte es Smits, sich an der Spitze abzusetzen, während Schrötter und Tulovic häufig die Positionen tauschten. Am Ende setzte sich der Bayer durch und stand an diesem Sonntag zum zweiten Mal als Zweiter auf dem Podium. Damit verringerte er seinen Rückstand in der Meisterschaft auf 34,5 Punkte.

Für Spannung beim Finale der «EURO MOTO» 2026 am letzten September-Wochenende auf dem Hockenheimring ist also gesorgt.

«Das Wochenende am Nürburgring war grossartig. Es ist eine Freude zu sehen, welche Fortschritte wir im Laufe der Tage gemacht haben. Vor allem nach einem schwierigen Start haben wir uns stetig verbessert, bis wir wirklich schnelle Rundenzeiten fuhren. Wir waren zwar nicht die Schnellsten in der Superpole, aber angesichts der Tatsache, dass die Zeiten fast eine Sekunde schneller waren als der bisherige Rundenrekord, und dass wir diese Pace auch in den Rennen beibehalten haben, unterstreicht das hohe Niveau, auf das wir zurückgekehrt sind. Im ersten Rennen gab die Spitzengruppe sogar dieses Tempo über die gesamte Distanz vor. Ich bin sehr froh, dass ich immer die Lage war, mithalten zu können. Bis drei oder vier Runden vor Schluss hatte ich sogar das Gefühl, dass ich mich stärker in den Kampf um den Sieg einmischen könnte. Aber das Tempo war während des gesamten Rennens sehr hoch, und ich hatte das Gefühl, dass ich etwas näher am Limit fahren musste als unsere Konkurrenten, was bedeutete, dass ich die Reifen stärker beanspruchen musste. Als die Reifen schliesslich nochmal nachliessen, wurde es etwas schwieriger. Aber ich war mit meiner Leistung und dem zweiten Platz sehr zufrieden.»

«Für das zweite Rennen haben wir nicht viele Änderungen am Motorrad vorgenommen, da wir bereits in Schlagdistanz lagen. Abgesehen von ein paar kleinen Anpassungen an der Elektronik, die wir ausprobiert haben, wusste ich, wie sich das Motorrad anfühlen würde. Allerdings waren die Bedingungen am Nachmittag aufgrund der wärmeren Temperaturen ganz anders, was sich auf den Grip auswirkte. Deshalb habe ich mich nicht ganz so wohl gefühlt wie zuvor. Es war insgesamt etwas schwieriger, ins Rennen zu kommen und das Gefühl für das Motorrad zu entwickeln. Aber am Ende war es das Wichtigste, vor Lukas ins Ziel zu kommen und damit die Titelentscheidung auf Hockenheim zu verschieben. Das war unser Hauptziel für dieses Wochenende. Natürlich wäre es schöner gewesen, wenn in beiden Rennen mehr Motorräder zwischen uns gelegen hätten. Aber wir haben genau das erreicht, was wir uns vorgenommen hatten: eine deutliche Verbesserung gegenüber den letzten beiden Wochenenden. Darüber freue ich mich am meisten.»

«Jetzt freue ich mich auf das Finale in Hockenheim, das für mich ein bisschen wie ein Heimrennen sein wird. Die Strecke liegt zwar nicht direkt in Bayern, ist aber diejenige im Rennkalender, die meinem Wohnort am nächsten liegt. Viele Freunde und Fans werden dort sein, um mich anzufeuern. Ich möchte es einfach geniessen und alles geben. Dann werden wir sehen, wie es ausgeht. Ich denke, insgesamt war es für mich bereits eine erfolgreiche Debütsaison in der «EURO MOTO. Es macht Spass, und ich geniesse es, hier zu fahren. Aber wenn wir diese Saison mit einem grandiosen Finale abschliessen könnten, wäre das natürlich absolut fantastisch. Wir haben in den bisherigen Rennen gezeigt, wozu wir fähig sind, und dass noch viel mehr Potenzial in uns steckt. Meine vorläufige Saisonbilanz sieht also vielversprechend aus. Wir haben zwar ein paar Rennen hergeschenkt, aber das sind Erfahrungen, die man im ersten Jahr sammelt und mitnimmt. Trotzdem werden wir in Hockenheim um jeden Preis alles geben. Dazwischen steht noch eine Rennwoche in Le Castellet in der Langstrecken-Weltmeisterschaft an, auf das ich mich genauso freue. Im letzten Rennen dort steht noch ein Platz unter den Top 5 in der Gesamtwertung auf dem Spiel. Der September wird also sehr spannend. Aber der Nürburgring war bereits ein grossartiger Start in den Monat und macht Appetit auf mehr.»

EN: Two second-place finishes to keep the title race open

Marcel Schrötter finished on the podium in both races at the Nürburgring, beating the current points leader, Lukas Tulovic, each time.

Last week was a real feat of endurance for Marcel Schrötter in many ways, as he headed directly from a test for the Endurance World Championship finale at the Circuit Paul Ricard in Le Castellet, in southern France, to the Nürburgring on Wednesday evening where the second-last round of the current «EURO MOTO» series made its visit there.

The weekend at the famous racetrack in Germany’s Eifel region got underway as early as Thursday with a day of testing. Although Schrötter had gotten less sleep the night before, he was among the first to tackle the intense day of work, which ultimately paid off for Schrötter and his GERT56 team.

Starting with the weekend's official practice sessions on Friday morning, Schrötter got faster with each session. In Superpole, the 33-year-old finished third, which meant he once again started the races from the front row.

In the first race on Sunday, shortly before noon, the BMW rider got off to a good start, moved into second place in the first turn, and immediately settled in right behind eventual race winner, Twan Smits. At the end of the first lap, however, Schrötter came under heavy pressure from Lukas Tulovic, who was giving it his all in the early stages of the race to move up through the field. This, however, created a gap to the leader.

Shortly thereafter, meanwhile, the balance of power became clear. Lap by lap, Schrötter closed the gap on Smits until he was right on his tail. In the closing stages, he put intense pressure on the Dutch rider, but in the final laps, he didn’t have enough left in the tank to launch a decisive attack. At the finish line, Schrötter missed his second victory of the season as a rookie in the «EURO MOTO» Superbike class by just 0.8 seconds.

Race 2 in the afternoon, which took place under significantly warmer conditions, proved even more exciting for Schrötter. A lap-long duel with Tulovic, and also Markus Reiterberger, who kept closing in menacingly, allowed Smits to pull away at the front, while Schrötter and Tulovic frequently swapped positions. In the end, the Bavarian rider prevailed and stood on the podium in second place for the second time this Sunday. This reduced his deficit in the championship to 34.5 points.

So, there’s sure to be plenty of excitement at the 2026 «EURO MOTO» finale on the last weekend of September at the Hockenheimring.

«The weekend at the Nürburgring was fantastic. It’s a joy to see the progress we’ve made over the course of the days. Especially after a difficult start, we steadily improved until we were posting really fast lap times. We weren’t the fastest in Superpole but given that the times were nearly a second faster than the previous lap record, and that we maintained that pace in the races as well, it underlines the high level we’ve returned to. In the first race, the leading group even set that pace over the entire distance. I’m very glad that I was always in a position to keep up. Until three or four laps before the end, I even felt that I could get more involved in the battle for the win. But the pace was very high throughout the entire race, and I felt that I had to ride a bit harder pushing the limits than our competitors, which meant I had to push the tires harder. When the tires finally started to drop again, it got a more difficult. But I was very satisfied with my performance and the second-place finish.»

«We didn’t make many changes to the bike for the second race, since we were already within striking distance. Aside from a few minor adjustments to the electronics that we tried out, I knew how the bike would feel. However, the conditions in the afternoon were quite different due to the warmer temperatures, which affected the grip. That’s why I didn’t feel quite as comfortable as before. Overall, it was a bit harder to get into the race and find the right feel for the bike. But in the end, the most important thing was to finish ahead of Lukas and thus postpone the title decision until Hockenheim. That was our main goal for this weekend. Of course, it would have been nicer if there had been more bikes between us in both races. But we achieved exactly what we set out to do: a significant improvement over the last two weekends. That’s what I’m most happy about.»

«Now I’m looking forward to the season’s finale in Hockenheim, which will feel a bit like a home race for me. Although the track isn’t actually located in Bavaria, it’s the one on the racing calendar that’s closest to where I live. Lots of friends and fans will be there to cheer me on. I just want to enjoy it and give it my all. Then we’ll see how it turns out. Overall, I think it’s already been a successful debut season for me in «EURO MOTO». It’s fun, and I enjoy racing here. But if we could wrap up this season with a spectacular finale, that would, of course, be absolutely fantastic. We’ve shown in the races so far what we’re capable of and that we still have a lot more potential. So, my preliminary season assessment looks promising. We’ve dropped a few races, but those are the kinds of experiences you gain and take with you in your first year. Nevertheless, we’ll give it our all in Hockenheim, no matter what. In between, there’s still a race week in Le Castellet in Endurance World Championship, which I’m just as excited about. In the final race of this championship there, a spot in the top 5 of the overall standings is still up for grabs. So, September is going to be very exciting. But Nürburgring was already a great start to the month and has whetted my appetite for more.»
